Recycle to Preserve our Past Campaign

In conjunction with the City’s initiative targeted towards 3rd graders participating in the “Learning about Lenexa” Program, The Lenexa Historical Society will launch a fundraising/recycling campaign, “Save our Wagon” to finance the restoration of the wagon wheels of the LHS Prairie Schooner Wagon currently stored on the grounds of Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park.  This restoration will take a skilled artisan in this lost trade.

The LHS will facilitate the collection and recycling of used cell phones as the primary funding method for this restoration.  We have teamed with Pace Butler, a company specializing in the recycling of cell phones for fundraising purposes.

It is our hope that these 3rd graders will have a vested interest in preserving this historical item by assisting in the collection within their schools.  Ultimately, the final result will come when these students will see first-hand the fruits of their labor when the restored wagon will be sent on a tour of participating schools later this spring.

In addition, the LHS will place donation boxes at The Lenexa Community Center, City Hall as well as the Legler Barn.

We encourage all LHS Members to assist in this innovative fundraising event by collecting used cell phones from neighbors, friends and family and dropping them off at one of the designated locations.

It is simply amazing that we can recycle current technology to preserve our past!

    Anyone wishing to contribute monetarily:

LHS, 14907 W. 87th St. Parkway, Lenexa, KS  66215.
Please note on check this is for “wagon” fund.
